A New TNF

So, that's it…after all this time. A switch goes off, just like that.

– Chief Gaelen Tyrol, Battlestar Galactica

The switch, it's done gone off. The Nested Float – which is quickly, in my head at least, being rebranded as TNF – has been relaunched. Glad you could make it to the after party.

Major changes are afoot. As those of you not on a feed reader likely noticed, the new site's highlighting more than just standard blog posts. I'm taking some cues from the better tumbleogs I've seen. Right now, I'm running separate sections for links, quotes, and blog posts. I'll be adding some other content types as time goes on. Pics'll almost certainly come first.

As I mentioned in my last post, the final submission to the former TNF, I have one overarching goal for the new site: that it helps me re-engage with the web. Inspired in part by Jeffrey Zeldman's recent piece about the Vanishing Personal Site and in part by Jeremy Keith's response, I've decided to live more of my online life here.

So I've dumped my entire history of blog posts. And I've dropped the whole single-focus blog idea. I'll be writing and tracking more than just web design. Not that there won't still be a huge tech bias. It's me we're talking about here.

Good to see you all again. Hope it's even half as much fun for you as it will be for me.

Looks very nice! I like the grid and the different colours for different sections. (If I were to complain about one thing, it would be that the checkboxes under this comment form should have <label>s)

I can’t believe you’ve dumped everything you already had though! I don’t think I could say goodbye to all of my posts just like that. Still, hope it works out for you!

Thanks, Phil! You’ll likely see a lot of random little tweaks if you stop back by in the weeks to come. For instance: I notice as I type this comment that I forgot to set the line height on the textarea. Doh!

Solid work Matt. A great design. I love the simple icons and color coding to identify the different sections of content on the ‘all of it’ page.

Thanks, guys! The color coding, it appeals to the OCD side of me. Nice when compulsions and well-received aesthetics overlap.
